in the shape of things to come...

Initially, the idea was to do something with this blog in collaboration with some of my close technofreak (haha) friends... The problem is, the only one who I had approached with the idea was nootrope(I think his answer was "ok.", in typical noo fashion). And then, how to put it other than... he bashed his head in a cement wall while riding his bike and died. I'm still grieving, I don't think I will ever be done really. I didn't even get to see him at his wake - somehow this makes things harder, as if his death was still partly virtual to me.

And then I had my own head/headbashing problems to deal with, in which I won't go in great details here but you can always read about in my livejournal (and spare me the oooh, emo teenage you! comments, it's a much nicer journalling tool than it's given credit for - and at least it's not myspace, so hey.) if you are so inclined.

So sexbots can never be sexbots - or what I wanted it to be. But I have a (big words again) vision for it. I don't know how I can make it come to fruition, and I'm not sure it will be something I will do alone...But for now it will.

I'm leaving all the spam comments in here too. It amuses me. This is the net of now, the one where weblogs are spammed, the one where close friends die and you learn about it on IRC, the one where bloggers dissapear for a couple months and resurface with a bit more teeth and perhaps a bit more brains, hopefully.

Let's see if anyone's still up for the ride...

phone.home

uphone.org looks neat-o.

I will set it up if there's interest in the house and in here... I do hope ISF puts it up in hotspots (yes, I'm just using the mailing list as content, I rock like that). That would be hilarious.

Rant line anyone?

The Academy of Received Ideas

McKenzie Wark cracks me up.

Those of us less than amused by academic endeavours will surely appreciate his "Academy of Received Ideas"...Check out the Dictionary of Received Ideas. It rocks. Let's see, for no particular reason, what's at the letter E:

economics: theorists who hold that the best way to allocate resources is to have a free market in everything, except economists.

ecriture: (from the French) writing which not even its author understands.

empirical evidence: gossip.

enlightenment: the irrational belief in the supreme and unchallengeable power of reason.

essentialism: no one is quite sure what, in essence, it is, but it makes an excellent insult.

eternal return: Brady Bunch reruns.

Sometimes it takes a dose of self-negation to get through the day. Sometimes, however, flipping everyone off sounds like a much more productive endeavour.

I'll take option deux. Works well for some, after all.

wrt54g, how I <3 thee

The linksys wrt54g router is a neat little piece of hardware.

This [google cache, as site has been KIA it seems] brings its goodness quotient up a notch...

"the linksys wrt54g has been the target of many hacks taking it far beyond its original intended mode of operation; now going so far as becoming a personal telephone company. David DeLauro has set up an asterisk pbx system on top of the the openwrt firmware package."

(via hackaday)

If that's not kickass, I don't know what is.

nightglow bunnies

Juste un petit coucou au très brillant Mathieu et ses (enfin, sont pas à lui) non moins brillants lapins phosphorescents. Je pressens qu'il sera très intéressant à lire, donc. Go. C'est un ordre.

phrack the planet

Just saw that Phrack is (once again, but sounds plausible) announcing the next phrack will be the last phrack.

I can think of many sites I'd like to see disappear before that one. If only for the historical appeal.

But history doesn't have a crazy hot appeal for most people it seems.

Posted via the noticeably purple and rather goofy-looking DashBlog widget. The new OS X is really spiffy, and I like it very, very much.

You can start the jokes now.
